Jack Sells Popcorn Progress Report

Jack hasn't been idle this week - he's been making flyers and videos, working at Show-N-Sells, and going door to door to raise money for his Pack and Scouting. As you can see in the sidebar, he's off to a great start! At the end of his first week of sales he's already 23% of the way towards his goal - almost a quarter of the way there!!!

Why Sell Popcorn?

This is Jonathan and my 4th year in Scouts together. He's gained confidence, character, and friendships from his experience. Pack 455 is a very active and enthusiastic organization, and we both enjoy being a part of it.

The Pack covers the cost of Scout activities and awards through annual dues and it's Fall Popcorn Fundraiser. One of the benefits of the fundraiser is that if Jonathan sells enough popcorn, the dues are waived. Jonathan actually has a chance to pay his own way through Scouts.

Having volunteered with the Pack for the last couple of years, I have a clear idea where the money goes. Most of it is used on Scout patches and awards that the boys earn throughout the year. Another big chunk goes towards Pack events like bike rodeos, camping trips, Pinewood derbies, Raingutter Regattas, and the Blue and Gold Banquet. All of it is used to give the boys a top notch Cub Scout program experience.

This particular Fundraiser is organized by the National Capital Area Council of BSA, which our Pack belongs to. They have teamed up with Trail's End to provide a trusted product and a simple program that brings 70% of Popcorn sales back to the Scouts, and over 30% directly back to Jonathan's Cub Scout Pack. Effectively, over 30% of every dollar Jonathan earns goes into the Pack, and right into campsite reservations, craft supplies for rank achievement activities, and marshmallows...

I hope that you can help Jonathan towards his goal. It's not mandatory for him to participate in the fundraiser, but he set the bar high this year and he's determined to work hard to reach it. I'm doing what I can to help him out, but he's really driving the show.
